S for Senses and Snow globes

"S" week was a busy week, and with Spring Break in the midst of it, we expanded it a little.  We found ourselves learning about our 5 senses and then doing a sensory activity with food where we closed our eyes and smelled, listened, touched, tasted, and then saw our food.  The kids really seemed to like the activity, and really enjoyed the tasting portion of the activity.
We also found ourselves making snow globes in class.  The kids got to pick out what figurine they wanted to put in their snow globe, and then put the glitter in their snow globes.  They liked seeing their colorful "snow" fall upon their figurine after they shook their jars.
Dr. Seuss also made a visit to our classroom with some stories and then sock puppets.  "Oh the thinks that they thought with the socks from the book 'The Thinks That You Think!'"

Leap Year 2012

Well, a snow day kept us from actually seeing Leap Year at school, but we still talked about and celebrated the day with the classes.  The 3-4 Year Olds made balloon frogs that hopped about.  The Pre-K class made paper plate frog puppets.  Everyone was found leaping around the room like a frog.  We talked about this special day and how it only comes around every 4 years.  I think it shocked some of the kids to realize that some of them will be 9 at the next Leap Year.  It was a special day, and it was kind of a bummer that we weren't able to celebrate it at school.

B for Balloon

The 3-4 year old class has been busy with their alphabet.  We work on a new letter every class.  For the letter "B" we had balloons that we got to blow up and play with.  The kids had a lot of fun blowing up the balloons and then watching as they blew around the room.  They found out that it took a lot of air to make them get bigger.  They enjoyed being able to hit them around as well.

Letter R - Really Rad!

The letter "R" had the students hopping like rabbits and making paper rabbits.  They also made rockets out of milk jugs.  On Friday we found our way to the library where we READ books.  We have been trying to make it to the library more this semester and the kids always enjoy picking out books to take home.
